Olympic Weightlifting

JustLift is Ottawa’s centre for Olympic Weightlifting. We are first and foremost an Olympic Weightlifting Club with members of all ages and abilities. As a member of the Ontario Weightlifting Association (OWA), we host and compete in officially sanctioned weightlifting meets at the club, provincial, national, and international level.

So, if you’ve never even touched a barbell before, or if you’re looking to compete at the highest level, JustLift is the place to get better at performing the Snatch and the Clean and jerk.

Olympic Lifting Level 1

Oly Level 1

Interested in weightlifting but have no experience? Fear not! We have the program for you. Our Level 1 class offering is designed specifically for the novice with no experience in the Olympic lifts. This class is designed to teach the fundamental movement patterns and positions required to successfully, and confidently execute the Snatch and Clean and Jerk. Combined with our Strength 1 program, participants will also develop a fundamental strength base, with an emphasis placed on leg, pulling, and overhead strength development. If you’re interested in learning the lifts correctly from the very beginning, then, this is the class for you! We are the only club in Ottawa to offer a dedicated intro program in the Olympic lifts. Classes are scheduled regularly and are kept small in size (8 or less) to ensure a high level of individual attention.

Olympic Lifting Level 2

Oly Level 2

This is the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Our Level 2 program is designed for those that are able to perform the lifts comfortably, having either progressed through our Level 1 program, or through previous experience with the lifts. This is our broadest program and is designed for those looking to continually develop and refine their technique, with the goal of increasing their Snatch and Clean and Jerk Total. Athletes in this program will follow either our 3x/wk, or unlimited training plans. Training can be followed during our general JustLift training blocks.

JustLift Powerlifting

JustLift High Performance

Our High Performance (HP) program is designed to support the continual development of high performance competitive athletes in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. This program is suitable for athletes that are either at or nearing the Canadian National Qualifying standards. Athletes that reach our performance markers will receive a discounted training membership, individualized programs, competition schedule, and annual training plans. They may train during our general JustLift training blocks, as well as HP team training blocks.

I wanted to train with people knowledgeable on the main strength lifts and follow a regimented strength program. I have made significant strength gains in all my lifts, have gotten rid of my chronic lumbar pain, and feel a lot more confident with the mental challenge of getting under the bar for a personal record attempt. I am considering trying the Oly program to learn another strength discipline.
Miguel Iriondo
I was looking to learn the Olympic lifts and how to incorporate them into a program for boxers. I’m stronger, more flexible, and steadier in all lifting positions. I’ve become more confident because I’m enjoying myself athletically again and I look healthier. Just Lift is a great place to train and be coached. The coaches are fantastic people and remarkably thorough – they’re in a class of their own in Ottawa. The athletes are a blast to be around.

The atmosphere at Just Lift is welcoming and energetic. Coaches are very knowledgeable and eager to help. My lifts have gone up: 45kg Clean and Jerk, 35kg Snatch, and 45kg back squat. I’ve become a more calm, collected, and driven person. Socially, I’ve made very close friendships and have overcome my stage fright. Just Lift is one of my favorite places on EARTH.
