Who Am I?

Greg began his introduction to Olympic-style Weightlifting in 2009 by jumping into the National Coaches Certification Program for Weightlifting with the intention of learning more about the lifts for his own training purposes. A scholar and teacher at heart, Greg took a keen interest in the science and methods of training in the development of high-level athletes.

Originally a volunteer coach, Greg instantly bonded with his new-found athletes. A dedicated and devoted individual, Greg made the decision to follow his passion, putting his graduate studies on hold, and making the decision that the continued growth and mentoring of his athletes was more important. Thus, in early 2012, JustLift was born with fellow coach and close friend, Ian Haya, who joined the effort shortly after.

Greg, using his knowledge and creativity, has quickly advanced many novice lifters into strong competitors. Some have even gone on to become nationally-ranked within a span of less than two years with many qualifying for or reaching the qualifying standards for the Provincial Championships within a year of training.

Although no longer an active competitor, Greg still trains as though he is. This is because he strongly believes experience is crucial to understanding the training process and the needs of JustLift’s members. Thus, every cue, every training cycle, and every pep talk he gives to anyone that trains at JustLift is strongly informed by his own experience under the bar.
